Checkups & Hygiene

Six month dental checkups and cleanings are necessary for maintaining healthy teeth and gums. Every machine requires regular maintenance, and your mouth is no different. What happens during this appointment? First, Dr. Rose will perform a visual examination for tooth decay, gum disease, or problems with old dental work. Digital x-rays help her identify problems that may be lurking beneath the surface. But she’s not just checking for decay and infection -- Dr. Rose can also perform an oral cancer screening, as requested. When problems are detected, we are prepared with services in restorative dentistry, like tooth-colored fillings, porcelain crowns, and more.

During your professional hygiene appointment, our gentle hygienists will inspect your gums for periodontal disease, the leading cause of tooth loss for American adults. The hygienists are specially trained to detect, deter, and treat gum disease. We prefer to help you maintain optimal oral health so that you never have to worry about gum disease. However, if you develop periodontal problems, we're here to help you.

Why is a checkup and cleaning recommended every six months? It may seem like a lot, but it’s what’s necessary for keeping larger problems at bay. Tooth decay and gum disease can cause major issues when left untreated -- and catching them in the earliest stages is important for ensuring the most conservative treatment is possible. Preventive dental attention is also vital for your overall health, as gum disease has been linked to cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and certain types of cancer. Oral cancer also causes one death each hour in the US, a number that’s likely so high due to the lack of early detection in its sufferers.
